I guess it’s pretty bad when your teddy bear calls you an ugly name.
Harrison’s ‘baby,’ Jones (formerly Brown Bear) got in trouble tonight. We were getting the boy ready for bed when he came up to me and said, “Mommy, Jones called me Stupid Head!”
“Well, you go tell Jones that we don’t use words like that in this house and if he says it again, he’ll have to sit on the green carpet.”
Around the corner, I hear my son muttering to his bear. More muttering, and Harrison comes up to me again. “He called me Stupid Head again!”
“Go to the carpet, Jones!”
“He gets a spanking first!” To this, I had to respond, “No, let the carpet work first and if he continues to say ugly words then we’ll go from there.”
With a smug sense of power, Harrison sat the bear on the green carpet. Thinking quickly, because I knew what was coming, I added, “If he says it again, Harrison, you’re both going to sit on the carpet.”
And sure enough, mere minutes later, Harrison looked up at me with what could only be glee in his eyes and said, “Mommy, Jones called me Stupid Head again!”
We had a very crowded carpet tonight.
